VII INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS liLETRAd
8, 9 and 10 July 2020
Intuition, diversity and globalization
The preservation of linguistic diversity seems to be a controversial issue even in societies that are officially committed to this purpose. This is because the question of language is easily linked to that of the concept of nation in each case.
On the other hand, in the current times of globalization, all the countries of the world, even if they only pursue their own ends, tend to tune their efforts to create a series of social, economic and technological transformations that provide a dynamic process that favours communication and interdependence.
This network of mergers, which promotes the development of business and trade, is characterized by making accessible the barriers in the labor, financial, goods and services markets. The danger of an economic, territorial or social gap opening up and, ultimately, of unequal development is cemented by conditions of competitiveness and security, which do not always bring joy to all participants at all times. As a result many societies, ethnic groups, and nations at all levels are opting for a little less intercommunication these days: America first, Brexit, Catalonia more than mai, etc. Who, if not the language intermediaries themselves, those of us who work both on cohesion within a linguistic community and on the inter- and multicultural sphere between various languages/cultures, will have the primary challenge of reconciling the two opposing tendencies in the present: towards more idiosyncrasy on the one hand and towards more cosmopolitanism on the other.
The venue for this VII International Congress liLETRAd 2020 is the University of Seville. Being a multilingual and prestigious institution recognized by antonomasia, it seems to us the ideal place to promote the dialogue of cultures in several languages (Portuguese, English, German, French, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Spanish, Arabic and Russian, classical languages, indigenous languages) and where Literature, Language and its Translation are a reality.
This congress is mainly addressed to university professors, academics, professionals, translators and interpreters and writers, film and short film directors, as well as to people with teaching and exchange interests from Africa, America, Asia, Europe and Oceania. This 7th edition of liLETRAd includes a literary and a film competition. Deadline for submission of works: 20 February 2020. For more information click here.
